UB makes Strides in Increasing Student Accomodation on Campus.

The University of Buea had signed a partnership agreement with the Cameroon Real Estate Development Agency, CREDA, for the construction of students’ halls of residence of 2500 beds. The ceremony which took place on Friday, 8th October 2021, was chaired by the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Buea.

Opening the ceremony, the Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Ako Edward Oben, underscored the timely nature of this agreement which will go a long way to solve issues of accomodation on campus. He regretted the fact that since the creation of the University, the University has been able to accommodate only 100 students, out of the over 36.000 student population.

Describing the project to those present, the architect, Mr. Babur, explained that the halls of residence will have 2500 beds for both male and female students, a shopping mall, play ground and many other facilities.

Mr. Njong Eric Njong, president or CREDA expressed excitement for the partnership and considered it as a privilege to contribute to the future of young Cameroonians by providing accomodation to them. According to him, “it’s not about building houses, but building the future of Cameroonians”.

The Vice-Chancellor who signed the agreement on behalf of the University was elated that the institution is finally benefiting from the corporate world, many of whose workers are products of UB, and noted with delight that the project which has been discussed for many years, will finally see the light of day.
The ceremony was graced by the beautiful voices of the UB choir and was attended by staff and students of UB and a delegation from CREDA.
