2018 Edition of the Academic and Professional Counseling Forum in Yaounde.
Seven establishments represented the University of Buea at the 2018 Academic and Professional Counseling Forum which held at the Multi Purpose Sports Complex in Yaounde from 23 – 25 May 2018. The Forum was held under the theme: “Academic and Professional Orientation at the dawn of the fusion of knowledge and digital economy”. For three days, the University of Buea Students showcased their know-how and came face-to-face with experts to discuss different academic options which could help them make the right educational choices to secure decent jobs.
The one-on-one exchanges between students and expert facilitators was also an opportunity to identify and encourage individual skills and give students the opportunity to get career counseling, internship opportunities and job offers based on their acquired skills.
The delegation from the University of Buea which was made up of the College of Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Social and Management Sciences and the Faculty of Education came in with projects that address particular needs of the society in the areas of Agriculture, Civil Engineering, Health and Education.
The most outstanding among them, which won First Prize was the project to control and monitor cooking gas. This project is a mobile application conceived by the Faculty of Engineering and Technology to assist domestic gas users to monitor the level of gas consumption to preempt any embarrassment during cooking.
Another project that drew the attention of the audience to the University of Buea exhibition stands was the project to process plantain flour by the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine. A project that saw an on-the-spot production of plantain flour and its transformation to bake plantain cake that was served as breakfast during the visit of stands by MINESUP.
