Visit of the Coordinating Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) African Region to the University of Buea,Friday, 19 January 2018
The delegation was led by the Rt. Honourable Gladys Kokorwe, Speaker of the Parliament of Botswana (in blue). She was accompanied by Honorable Lindiwe Maseko, MP
and Chairperson of the Executive Committee of CPA African Region (in red), Rt. Honourable Kabiru Minjiwa, MP and Speaker of Adamawa State House of Assembly and a host of MPs from Nigeria, Uganda, and Namibia.
They were received by Vice-Chancellor Ngomo Horace Manga, the Deputy Vice-Chancellors and the Registrar in the Board room of the Central Administrative Building.
Honorable Kokorwe said they are in Cameroon for their Regional Meeting and thought they should visit the roots of their recently elected President, Honourable
Emilia Monjowa Lifaka. They have come to say “Thank You” to the people of Cameroon for producing a President like Honorable Lifaka
Knowing that the Women Anthem which has become international was composed by a UB student, the MPs also wanted to know the University of Buea. They are looking at the University of Buea as one of the institutions that could be used for capacity building for some of their members of parliament.
The delegation went on a guided tour of two establishments: the College of Technology and the Faculty of Engineering and Technology where the Director and the Dean respectively presented their establishments as “a Centre of Excellence for Energy Distribution” and “a Flagship in Renewable Energy training”. The delegation
thanked the Vice-Chancellor and his team for the wonderful campus and the marvelous work they are doing to give the students first class training.
At the end of the site visits, the Vice-Chancellor thanked the MPs for their visit and wished them a safe return to their various countries.
